The livery is painted in Lauda’s iconic red and the name of the Austrian champion written in white letters on each side. The shape of the helmet is different to others from his career. Coincidentally, he wore the helmet the day of his near-fatal crash at the 1976 German Grand Prix, where he suffered life-threatening burnings.
In the 1976 campaign, Lauda finished second after a historical rivalry with Englishman James Hunt. Hunt went on to win the title by one point after Lauda withdrew from the last race in Japan due to the danger created by heavy rain.
