Lewis Hamilton‘s stunning 2024 Formula 1 helmet for his final year with the Mercedes F1 Team. Hamilton, the all-time leader in Formula 1 victories, Pole Positions and podiums, is definitely the biggest name in the 2024 grid, and his helmets have always been iconic, even though he’s worn several different designs and colors.

For the 2024 Formula 1 campaign, Hamilton has made some small changes from last year’s helmet. Moreover, there is a BIG difference in terms of sponsorship. It’s actually quite noticeable, as Monster Energy has left Mercedes and the helmets no longer feature that logo in the black ring at the top.

Hamilton has been wearing a lemon yellow helmet since the 2022 Formula 1 season. Purple has remained an essential part of the design, with the wings on the sides, top, and back of the helmet painted in that color.

The Evolution of Lewis Hamilton’s Helmets

As a big difference from World Champions from the past, Hamilton and other modern greats have elected to create several different helmets in terms of colors and design. Over the years, Hamilton has gone from a yellow design to white, red, black and purple, and back to a lemon-yellow helmet.

Some small parts have remained in Hamilton’s helmets since the beginning, like the HAM text at the back, which has been a feature on his helmet for more than a decade.

Early Career Helmets

Lewis Hamilton wore a yellow helmet with blue, red, and green details during his lower formulae days. After arriving in Formula 1 with McLaren-Mercedes in the 2007 F1 season, the British driver kept those colors.

The contrast between his yellow helmet and the chromed McLaren car was beautiful and Hamilton was easily noticed when driving on the track due to his unique colors. In his six years with McLaren, he kept roughly the same helmet, apart from some special editions in certain places.

With that yellow helmet, Hamilton won the 2008 F1 World Drivers’ Championship and 21 Grands Prix with McLaren. You can check Lewis Hamilton 2008 F1 Helmet Replica on our website.

In the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix, we first saw Hamilton wearing a white helmet, which would become the usual color for him in several seasons, starting in 2014.

Championship-Winning Helmets

Apart from the aforementioned 2008 F1 title-winning helmet, Hamilton showed us tremendous designs during his glory years with the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team.

Hamilton wore his usual yellow helmet in his first year with Mercedes in 2013. However, he switched to a white design with wine-red wings on the sides ahead of the 2014 F1 season, which was one of his best years in the sport.

Hamilton wore variants of this same helmet to win the Formula 1 titles in 2015, 2018, and 2019. However, his 2017 F1 helmet saw a return to the yellow design, although he kept the wine-red sections in the design. That year, Hamilton created a competition among fans to design his helmet for that season, and the winner was Raí Caldato, a Brazilian designer who stayed with Hamilton for several years afterward.

For the 2020 campaign, Hamilton has planned white designs with purple and magenta details. However, when the George Floyd incident occurred and the world united against racism, Hamilton elected to wear a black helmet with purple details, which he kept for 2021 as well.

Features of the 2024 Lewis Hamilton Helmet

The design of Lewis Hamilton’s new helmet for 2024 is similar to the one he presented in 2022, but keeps the gradient between purple and yellow in most areas of the helmet, which was first seen in 2023.

One detail that remains in Hamilton’s helmets since his McLaren days is the “HAM” text on the back. Since 2023, the text is vertically positioned at the back, as opposed to past seasons when it was horizontally.

Another key element at the back of Hamilton’s 2024 helmet is the phrase “Still I Rise”, which has been a mantra for Hamilton and his millions of fans over the years. The text is inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem And Still I Rise.

Safety and Technology Innovations

Lewis Hamilton’s 2024 F1 helmet model is the Bell HP77.

Bell’s official website describes the model with the following words:

“The HP77, based on Bell’s highly successful F1 World Champion proven HP7 design, provides the latest impact protection by lowering the visor opening by 12mm and reinforcing the front of the helmet with advanced ballistic protection.

The HP77 is the most advanced FIA8860-2018 helmet in Bell’s product line and sets a new standard for lightweight, aerodynamically superior carbon fiber helmet performance for the intense demands of open-wheel and open-cockpit forms of racing.

The HP77 is homologated to the FIA8860-2018 ABP standard, the most rigorous sport helmet standard on the planet, designed for professional formula racers competing athletes the highest levels of the sport.”

The Significance Behind the Design

Hamilton including yellow in the helmet has been usual since his early racing days, and it has often been mentioned as a homage to his racing idol, Ayrton Senna.

Personal Inspirations

However, purple appeared in his designs for the first time in the 2020 F1 campaign.

The purple color has been part of Hamilton’s identity ever since, and he has explained the introduction of the color to his design.

“I’m constantly searching for peace and harmony in both my mind, body and spirit. This helmet is inspired by the crystal Amethyst, to keep me grounded and bring me peace and tranquility.”

Team and Brand Collaborations

The main brand missing from Hamilton’s 2024 helmet is Monster Energy. The brand left Mercedes after 14 years and joined McLaren, which left the Mercedes drivers’ helmets without that logo in the black ring at the top.

Solera, the global leader in vehicle lifecycle management, now has its logo in that area of the design. Solera joined Mercedes in 2023 on a multi-year deal.

Comparing Hamilton’s 2024 Helmet with Previous Models

Hamilton’s F1 helmets for the last three seasons have had similar compositions. Purple and neon yellow have been the main colors of the helmets, but there’s an interesting fact about the differences between the designs.

Visual Comparisons

Anyone could argue that Hamilton’s Formula 1 helmet for 2024 is actually purple and not neon yellow. That point is quite fair, given there are bigger areas of purple in the design, as opposed to the 2022 edition when yellow was re-introduced as Hamilton’s main color.

The 2022 F1 design had yellow wings on the sides, with the seven starts representing Hamilton’s F1 titles painted in purple. Since 2023, the wings have both purple and neon yellow, and the purple seems to be over the yellow areas.

What could really make the 2024 F1 helmet of Hamilton a purple one, is that the top is also painted in purple, as opposed to the 2022 edition, which had all that area painted in neon.

It’s quite interesting, but there’s no arguing that those two colors are truly representative of Hamilton’s F1 career.

Technical Upgrades

The certification for the Bell HP77, which Hamilton wears, is the FIA8860-2018 ABP.

These are some of the features added to the model, which are updates from the previous model, the HP7.

  • Visor opening lowered 12mm with integrated visor panel into the front of the helmet for added ballistic protection from middle size debris
  • High-strength and high modulus carbon fiber ultra-lightweight FIA8860 carbon shell
  • Advanced multi-density, multi-piece liner to maximize energy absorption and impact performance
  • Optical grade injection molded Double Screen Anti-Fog (DSAF) visor for anti-fog control and superior visibility
  • Powerful and effective top and chin bar ventilation system with 12 air intake and extraction channels for maximum ventilation
  • Air intake system includes two-part center and side air intakes (installed)

Fans’ Reactions to the New Helmet

Several fans welcomed the design, while others were slightly disappointed due to the similar look to the 2023 edition.

Social Media Buzz

On some other social media pages, some fans wondered about the rainbow flag, which isn’t part of the original design but has been seen in a couple of races already.
