F1 FACTS: AYRTON SENNA AT THE CANADIAN GRAND PRIX

Print

From 1988 to 1992, Ayrton Senna‘s McLaren cars were powered by Honda engines, and the Japanese brands helped the Brazilian legend to win his three Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championships.

Honda usually appeared in Senna’s visor. However, the brand logo was sometimes missing from the design, specifically in the Canadian Grands Prix from 1989 to 1992.

In those races, Senna’s helmets had ‘Acura’ on the visor instead of Honda. Acura is the luxury car division of Honda for North America (it has expanded since) and it was displayed on the helmet of the then greatest driver in the world for marketing purposes.

Did you know about this? What are other anecdotes of Ayrton Senna’s career that you find interesting? Let us know.

In Canada, Senna competed in nine races and won twice in 1988 and 1990, both for McLaren.
