This is an exact replica worn by Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve during his title-winning year in 1997.
Villeneuve’s regular helmet design is conformed by four main areas, in this livery, as a change from his classic design, the light blue one (top) was changed to indigo blue. The pink section (sides and front) with the shape of a “V” separated from the blue with a black outline, the green area and the lower section painted in red remain in the livery. The design of the “V” is similar to the one in the helmet worn by his father, the great Gilles Villeneuve.
In the 1997 season, Villeneuve’s second year in F1, he won the title after a fierce battle with Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher. The title was decided in the last race of the season at Jerez when Schumacher arrived at the European Grand Prix with a one-point gap over Villeneuve.
While battling for the lead, Villeneuve tried an overtaking move over the German driver, who drove into him and prompted a crash. If both cars retired, Schumacher would take his third championship, but his move was not successful and Villeneuve carried on while his car beached in the gravel.
Villeneuve finished third in the race and won the championship. Afterwards, Schumacher was disqualified for his driving in the final race of the season.
