George Russell has now competed in 10 races for Mercedes in Formula 1 and he is still looking to become a Grand Prix winner. He competed as Sir Lewis Hamilton’s replacement in the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix due to Covid-19, but could finish only ninth after leading the race.
Now, he has finished in the Top 5 in every race of the 2022 Formula 1 season, but his best result has been third place (achieved three times).
If George Russell wins a race for Mercedes during the 2022 F1 season, he would be the sixth driver to do so while driving for the historic German brand.
The team has had nine World Drivers’ Championships in its F1 journey, starting with Juan Manuel Fangio in 1954 and 1955, then Hamilton won six between 2014 and 2020, and Nico Rosberg took one in 2016.
The three Mercedes champions in history (Fangio, Hamilton, and Rosberg) won eight, 82, and 23 races for the team, respectively.
The other two drivers who won a Formula 1 Grand Prix while racing for the Silver Arrows were Valtteri Bottas (10) and the legendary Sir Stirling Moss, who led a Mercedes 1-2-3-4 in the 1955 British Grand Prix at Aintree.
