The Williams driver won the World Championship after a collision in the final race at Jerez, in which Schumacher retired from the race but was ultimately blamed for the crash and disqualified from the championship.
That campaign, Villeneuve won seven races that year, while Schumacher won five for the Scuderia Ferrari in a controversial campaign.
