Formula 1’s 2022 season and the best helmets so far

IMG_2014-min

Formula 1 drivers’ helmets have been a great way to identify the heroes at the circuit easier ever since the first full-face helmet was worn by Dan Gurney back in the 1968 German Grand Prix. Ayrton Senna and other legends like Niki Lauda and Michael Schumacher were easily tracked while competing due to the iconic helmet designs that they wore throughout their careers.

In the current grid, there are several drivers who continuously create lots of headlines in the media due to the tremendous pieces of art that they were to protect their heads while racing. Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are probably the two most prominent drivers in that aspect, with both having worn a big number of special designs for several races, while younger racers like Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris are usually impressing us with some unique helmet designs.

In this article, we will give you a small review of some of the best 2022 F1 drivers’ helmets. Even though we’ve only had seven races in the 2022 Formula 1 season, there have been a couple of weekends, like the Miami Grand Prix or the Monaco Grand Prix, where drivers have shown us brilliant special helmets.

Sir Lewis Hamilton’s return to yellow

To start the season, Sir Lewis Hamilton gave us a fantastic design that went back to his early Formula 1 seasons, with his helmet being colored in yellow once again. The design is brilliant because it includes the shapes Hamilton has had on his helmets since 2014 (wings on the sides) while being painted in his old helmet color (although in a different tone).

Lando Norris and his unique helmets for the Miami and Monaco Grands Prix

For the fifth race of the Formula 1 2022 season, Lando Norris presented a beautiful helmet for the 2022 Miami GP, with the entire design representing a basketball, with his name written in the style of the brand that provides the NBA with balls for their games.

For the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix, Norris wore a great two-way design. The helmet has Norris’ usual design, but one half was painted in the usual, modern way, and the other was a brilliant, old-school white livery with black lines. Between the two sides of the helmet, the Monaco flag could be seen, going across from below the visor to the back of the design.¿

Charles Leclerc’s lovely 2022 F1 helmet for his home race

Charles Leclerc started the 2022 Formula 1 season with a new red design that is definitely one of the great helmet designs among drivers on the current F1 grid. However, he wore a special design for the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix, his home race.

Instead of an all-red helmet, Leclerc wore a design divided into red and white, representing the exact colors and configuration of the Monaco flag. The overall design was similar to his usual helmet, with the Monaco flag crossing the middle of the helmet, from visor to back. However, most of the details were white and red and the design is definitely among the prettiest of the F1 2022 season.

Unfortunately for Leclerc, he could not win his home race in 2022 after starting from Pole Position due to a brilliant qualifying lap on Saturday. The wet-dry race started well for the Ferrari driver, as he was leading the pack. However, the Scuderia’s strategy wasn’t precise when the track started to dry out, and the Monegasque could only finish fourth in his home event.

Compared to his previous outings at Monaco in Formula 1, fourth was good for Leclerc, as he finished a Monaco GP for the first time in his F1 career. However, it seemed like a poor result given the competitiveness of his car and his own great performance throughout the weekend.
