Charles Leclerc finally won at home. The Ferrari driver won the iconic Monaco Grand Prix, the eighth race of the 2024 Formula 1 calendar and the first for the Monegasque in his home GP, where he also qualified on Pole Position.
The 2024 race, held in the historic Circuit de Monaco on May 26th, was the 70th Monaco Grand Prix in F1 history. Its 70 editions so far make Monaco the fifth country in terms of races celebrated in Formula 1 history, behind Italy, Germany, Britain, and the US.
The most successful driver in Monaco is the legendary Ayrton Senna, who dominated the street circuit with six victories, one more than two-time champion Graham Hill and seven-time champion Michael Schumacher.
McLaren is the most successful team in Monaco, with 15 victories, five more than Ferrari. However, McLaren’s most recent win in Monaco came in 2008.
Max Verstappen won the race in 2023 and has two victories at Monaco on his resume. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton leads current drivers with three victories in Monaco.
On his side, Fernando Alonso also has two wins in Monaco, achieved in 2006 and 2007 with two different teams (Renault and McLaren), an unprecedented feat in Monaco’s F1 history.
