Spaniard Carlos Sainz took the first win of his Formula 1 career in the 2022 British Grand Prix. He drove his Ferrari to a big win after a race in which Max Verstappen looked like the favorite before his Red Bull car lost pace.
Then, Sainz’s teammate Charles Leclerc, Sainz and Mercedes’ Sir Lewis Hamilton were in contention for the victory before a late Safety Car helped Sainz, as he pitted for soft tyres and his teammate didn’t.

Sainz overtook Leclerc quickly and escaped after Leclerc, Hamilton and Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez were fighting for the other two places on the podium. After some great racing and some other ugly defensive moves, mainly by Pérez, the Mexican grabbed second place and Hamilton finished third in his home race.
Sainz took the 33rd win in Formula 1 for a Spanish driver, with Fernando Alonso winning the other 32 races.
