For his first season as a full-time driver for Mercedes, Russell decided to go away from the red color in order to pay homage to Michael Schumacher, who wore that color during his Mercedes days.

In the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, Russell showed a new light-blue design that would become his fixed color for the rest of the season. The helmet is painted and created by MDM Designs.

In the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix, Russell became a Formula 1 pole-sitter with a great lap on Saturday.
