For his first season with McLaren, Prost’s helmet featured some changes in the design from 1983. The helmet livery includes two blue horizontal stripes on the sides, which were not included in the 1983 design. The main colors remain the blue, red and white of the French national flag.

In 1984, Prost had a phenomenal year with seven wins and nine podiums, however, he lost the championship against his teammate Niki Lauda by 0.5 points.
