Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher had one of Formula 1‘s greatest rivalries in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
While Hakkinen managed to win titles in 1998 and 1999 (Schumacher was injured in the second one), Ferrari came back firing and won consecutive titles from 2000 to 2004, with the Finn retiring in 2001.
Regardless of records and numbers, the two-time champion Hakkinen and seven-time champion Schumacher were closely matched and their rivalry was amazing, equal, competitive, and classy.
It gave us many great moments, such as Hakkinen’s overtake at Spa-Francorchamps in 2000 or Schumacher’s glorious win in the 2000 Japanese Grand Prix to seal his first title with the Scuderia Ferrari.
On August 13th, 2000, Hakkinen beat the German driver in the 2000 Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. The Finn won the race from third on the grid, beating pole-sitter Schumacher by 7.9 seconds.
It was Hakkinen’s third win of the 2000 campaign and the 17th of his F1 career (he ended up with 20 wins).
Which F1 helmet did Hakkinen wear?
