Max Verstappen took his eighth win of the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship season after a thrilling battle with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton for victory at the Circuit of the Americas.
The Dutch driver extended his lead in the World Drivers’ Championship to 12 points, as Hamilton finished second and recorded the Fastest Lap of the race. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez, had a brilliant weekend and finished third in the race, behind the two title contenders.
Verstappen now has 18 Formula 1 wins and took an important victory in the fight for the title against Hamilton, with five races left in the 2021 calendar.

After 17 races, Verstappen has 287.5 points to his name, while Hamilton has scored 275.5.
The 2021 Mexico City Grand Prix will be the next race.
