Piquet entered Formula 1 in 1978 with Ensign, then drove a trio of races with a privateer McLaren and finished the year with Brabham.

Piquet went on to win a couple of World Drivers’ Championships with Brabham in 1981 (with Ford Cosworth engines) and in 1983, with a BMW engine (which was the first turbo engine to win the F1 title). Then, Piquet drove for Williams-Honda and won the 1987 title.
He finished his career with Benetton in 1991. Overall, Piquet drove for Ensign, drove a privateer McLaren, and raced for Brabham, Williams, Lotus, and Benetton.
Piquet won 23 races in his career and achieved 60 podiums in his career.
