F1 HISTORY: MICHAEL SCHUMACHER’S FOURTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Back in 2001, Michael Schumacher had an immensely consistent and great Formula 1 season with the Scuderia Ferrari. His prowess during that year helped him become only the third driver in Formula 1 history with at least four World Championships (at the time, only Juan Manuel Fangio with five and Alain Prost with four had reached that number).

On August 19th, 2001, Schumacher gave Ferrari a second consecutive World Drivers’ Championship, just a year after ending the team’s drought of Drivers’ championships since 1979. On that day, he won the 2001 Hungarian Grand Prix in dominant fashion, ahead of his teammate Rubens Barrichello.

Schumacher’s win, behind the wheel of the V10-powered Ferrari F2001, sealed the 2001 World Championship in his favor and it was the second of five straight titles he won with the Scuderia between 2000 and 2004, and his fourth overall.

The win was also the 51st in the German’s career, which equaled the then all-time record of Grand Prix wins, held by Alain Prost.
