This Sunday, Formula 1 will be celebrating the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone. The track hosted the first-ever Grand Prix of the World Championship of Drivers’ in 1950 and a special event will take place this weekend to honor F1’s 70th year.
The first Championship race was celebrated on May 13th 1950 and was won by Giuseppe ‘Nino’ Farina in an Alfa Romeo 158 ‘Alfetta’.
Luigi Fagioli and Reg Parnell finished second and third for an Alfa Romeo 1-2-3. Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio had qualified third and even led the race for a short moment before retiring with an oil pipe issue in his Alfetta.
